In one of the battles, a youth on a white steed fought on the side of the Georgian troops. As he had defeated the commander of the enemy, the king rewarded him with a black felt cloak – shavi nabady (shavi – black: - a felt cloak). After the battle, our forces held a thanksgiving service in the nearest church. Together with the king, that very hero was in the church, and after the service, the king asked for him. All got immensely amazed, as he wasn’t seen anywhere… All at once, God dawned upon the flock the truth, and the people uttered in one voice: “Thanks be to God!” They beheld that young warrior in the fresco of Saint George!
This church is named after Saint George. It is our church, and since that very day, this mountain has been called “The Shavnabada Mount”, and the church _ “ The Shavnabada Church of Saint George” The folk feast called “Shavnabadoba” is celebrated in memory of that miracle.
